Because of its superior biocompatibility, lower modulus, and improved corrosion tolerance as opposed to more conventional stainless steels and cobalt-based alloys, ti-6al-4v round bar is being used more frequently as a biomaterial.

Grade 5 Titanium Round Bar alloy is the most economically available titanium alloy grade. The ASTM B348 standard applies to titanium alloy. This standard covers annealed ASTM B348 Grade 5 Hexagonal Bar made of a titanium-based alloy. ASTM B348 Titanium Grade 5 Round Bar is used in a variety of factories and markets, including the textile industry, railway engines and coaches, heavy machinery industries, and the manufacture of arms and ammunition.

While Grade 5 Titanium Bars are immune to general corrosion, they may be easily targeted by conditions that allow the protective oxide coating to breakdown, such as hydrofluoric (HF), hydrochloric (HCl), sulfuric, and phosphoric acids.Slow speeds, strong feed rates, rigid tooling, and filling the workpiece with non-chlorinated cutting fluid may all be used to machine Grade 5 Titanium bar stock.
Weldability, good fabricability are excellent properties of Titanium Rod Grade 5. However, some factors, such as the shielding inert gas used in the method, as well as the cooling temperature and cleaning the welded region on the Ti Grade 5 Flat bar, must be considered when welding the alloy in order to optimise its strength and corrosion resistant properties.  Gr5 Titanium Bar also has hardness and thermal properties that are almost identical to CP titanium grades.

The cost of 6al4v Titanium Rod because of its complexities of manufacturing technologies, is very high. Titanium's strength and heat tolerance complicate production considerably.
